Humans have badly damaged the natural environment

By misusing their intellect, humans are paving the way for their own destruction.Humans are a creation endowed with intelligence and wisdom, a blessing not granted to any other creature on earth. Through the power of reason and intellect, humans have achieved incredible feats: from creating tools to building civilizations, from exploring the universe to uncovering its mysteries. Today, with just a click, the entire world is at our fingertips, revealing what human intellect has offered us within and beyond this world.

Environmental Changes From cultivating crops to constructing skyscrapers, we have reshaped the planet to suit our needs.

Modern Knowledge  Science, arts, and philosophy have given the world a new dimension through intellect. In the past, when someone suffered from a disease, they had to endure excruciating procedures like cutting into specific body parts to diagnose the problem. Today, with X-rays, scans, or blood tests, even the most severe diseases and their treatments can be discovered.

Connecting the World Through intellect, humans have brought people closer than ever with innovations like the internet, global trade, and transportation systems. Imagine a person in the East effortlessly communicating with someone in the West via video call.

Exploration Beyond Earth Space exploration demonstrates our unquenchable thirst for discovery, from the moon to Mars and beyond. Humans have stepped out of this world to establish systems in space, sending messages back to earth and continuing the quest to conquer the universe.

These achievements are grounded in human intellect and wisdom. It is a force capable of solving complex problems, improving lives, and unlocking the mysteries of existence.

However! It is true that the misuse of intellect also harms humans themselves. The negative or improper use of intellect proves detrimental to humanity. Here are some examples:

Short-Term Thinking and Environmental Damage For decades, humans have known that excessive industrialization and deforestation harm the planet. Yet, we continue to exploit natural resources unsustainable, leading to climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. Seasons no longer behave as they should, affecting crops and endangering human health.

Weapons of War The same intellect that enables creation also leads to destruction. Weapons of war, including nuclear arms, are products of modern scientific knowledge. Despite knowing their catastrophic consequences, human intellect repeatedly chooses conflict over peaceful solutions, squandering opportunities for unity. As a result, millions have perished due to these weapons.

Economic and Social Inequality Human intellect has created governance and economic systems that generate wealth and opportunities. Yet, these systems are often exploited to serve a few at the expense of many. Poverty, inequality, and exploitation persist even in a world with the knowledge and resources to eliminate them.

Ignoring Ethical Values  Wisdom is not just about intelligence; it includes ethics and moral values. Yet, intellect often prioritizes power, profit, or convenience over compassion and justice, leading to corruption, oppression, and societal decline.

Why Have Humans Failed to Use Intellect Positively?

Despite having intellect, why has humanity failed to use it effectively? Several factors contribute to this:

Greed and Selfishness Human intellect has often driven decisions based on greed or self-interest, excluding considerations of humanity.

Failure to Balance Emotions and Logic Wisdom requires a balance between emotional intelligence and logical reasoning. Decisions driven by unregulated emotions, like anger or fear, compromise wisdom.

The Decline of Thought and Understanding Human intellect has invented everything to benefit or harm humanity. Yet, it seems intellect has stifled human understanding. While human intellect has given us much, it has also diminished our capacity to think independently. Intellect has weakened to the point where dependency is on the rise.

Social Media: Connecting the World but Spreading Lies Human intellect has brought people closer through social media but has also deprived them of critical thinking. News spreads without verification, and entire narratives are built on falsehoods. Later, it is revealed that it was all a lie.

AI: Restricting the Use of Intellect With the advent of AI, even the limited understanding humans had is diminishing. From simple emails to extensive research papers, AI now answers most queries. Before conducting research, we first consult AI and proceed only when satisfied. Although AI is a creation of human intellect, it is now overpowering human intelligence.

Future Concerns With AI challenging human intellect, it feels like it is competing with humans. Currently, it consumes human intellect; in the future, it may take a form that directly competes with humans. What will happen then? Will we be able to confront it? It seems inevitable that this trend will only grow.

Human Inventions Overpowering Humanity Human inventions are increasingly dominating human intellect. As humans seek convenience, these inventions grow stronger. This convenience is driven by human intellect on one hand and human incompetence on the other. Thus, it can be said that intellect is consuming human understanding, perception, and consciousness (with few exceptions).

Allah has granted humans the ability to use intellect wisely. Now, they have three options: use intellect properly, avoid negative uses, or sit idle with folded hands.
